SAVE™ Program Overview

ICC-ES Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation™ (SAVE™) Program

ICC-ES created the SAVE™ Program to verify manufacturers’ claims regarding the sustainable attributes of their products. Product evaluation under this program results in a Verification of Attributes Report™, which provides technically accurate product information that can be helpful to those seeking to qualify for points under major green rating systems (U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED, Green Building Initiative's (GBI) Green Globes, the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) and the ICC’s National Green Building Standard™ (ICC-700-2008) or the 2008 California Green Building Standards Code (Title 24, Part 11).

Basis of Verification

The program uses guidelines that have undergone public review by industry and other interested parties. These guidelines address the production stage of the item under review beginning with raw material acquisition and progressing through final manufacturing and packaging. Click here to review the nine categories for which guidelines have been developed.

Verification of Attributes Report™ (VAR™)

Applications for a VAR™ will be accepted for products whose sustainable attributes can be verified in accordance with the ICC-ES SAVE™ guidelines. Once issued and posted in the SAVE™ Directory of Reports, the VAR™ will provide confirmation to code officials, specifiers, architects, engineers, building owners and consumers that the product has been independently verified as having the sustainable attributes claimed by the manufacturer.

You may locate application materials, fee schedules, rules of procedure, guidelines, information about the SAVE™ Mark and, as they are issued, a list of Verification of Attributes Reports™ by clicking on the links on the left side of this page.
