A. The name is the Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation™ (SAVE™) Program.

A. The name is Verification of Attributes Report™ (VAR™).
Q. How does the SAVE™ program help manufacturers?
A. Manufacturers who receive a Verification of Attributes Report™ (VAR™) can provide their customers with a trusted third-party verification regarding their product’s sustainable attributes. The VAR™ provides information that may be useful in acquiring points under the major green rating systems.
Q. How does the SAVE™ program help specifiers, designers, contractors, builders, building owners, facility managers and the general public?
A. The program provides consumers with a trusted resource for identifying products with sustainable attributes. The program also assists in identifying products that may qualify for points under green rating systems (U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED, Green Building Initiative's (GBI) Green Globes, or the proposed National Green Building Standard™).
Q. What is the method used to evaluate products?
A. There are nine guidelines that were developed to set forth the documentation necessary for a manufacturer to provide. Click here for the complete list.
Q. Does the SAVE™ program evaluate products for compliance with building codes?
A. No. This is accomplished through ICC-ES evaluation reports and ICC-ES PMG listings. Non-regulated products will be accepted for evaluation under the SAVE program if compatible with one of the guidelines, as determined by ICC-ES.
Q. Will the Verification of Attributes Reports™ follow the Construction Specifications Institute Master Format for numbering/categorizing products?
A. Yes.
Q. Is participation in the SAVE™ program mandatory?
A. No, as with all ICC Evaluation Service programs, participation in the
SAVE ™ program is voluntary.
Q. Can I be sure that my ICC-ES VAR™ will be accepted by regulatory agencies?
A. Verification of Attributes Reports™ are only advisory. The authority having jurisdiction is always the final decision-maker with respect to acceptance of the product in question.
